5* HOTEL GENERAL MANAGER – ZANZIBAR

Verde Hotels are seeking an experienced General Manager to join the team in Zanzibar.

JOB SUMMARY



  • Responsible for all aspects of the operations, including guest and employee satisfaction, human resources, financial performance, sales and revenue generation and delivering a return on investment to both Owners and Verde Hotels.
  • Strategic business leader of the property.
  • Implement the Verde Hotels brand service strategy and brand initiatives with the objective of exceeding guest expectations, increasing profits and market share.
  • Holds management team accountable for strategy execution, and guides their individual professional development.
  • Ensure sales engines are leveraged and initiates independent and proactive sales activities to generate demand.
  • Actively seek to ensure brand positioning and success.
  • Proactive communication with owners, setting and managing expectations and delivering solid business results.
  • Actively involved in the local community and builds strong relationships with local officials, businesses, and customers.
  • Represents Verde Hotels brand values in all actions.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Hotel Degree / Diploma from an internationally recognised institution
  • Professional Commercial Degree – would be a definite advantage
  • Ideally 5 years plus (minimum of 12-24 months) experience in senior management of 5 star hotels and/or resorts in Australia/NZ, SE Asia or Africa. Ideally several different roles with either Leading Hotels of the World or Small Luxury Hotel groups.
  • Minimum 12 (18-24) months managing a resort as either a General Manager or Resort Manager.
  • 4* – 5* experience in International hotels or resorts, and more importantly with experience on the African continent.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen with experience in forecasting, setting and managing budgets and cost control.
  • Experience in managing staff including knowledge and experience in human resources and ethical staff management practice.
  • Proven track record (s) in successful management of an operation.
  • Experience in project managing or event managing large events, e.g. high end functions or weddings.
  • Excellent food knowledge and experience managing a 5 star food and beverage service (either directly or indirectly).
  • Computer Literate – Outlook, Word, Excel. Working knowledge of Protel and Easipos will be to you advantage.
  • Experience in contract negotiation for supply of goods and services.
  • Ideally have experience and knowledge in PR, marketing and/or advertising.
  • Ideally have experience working in remote location(s).
  • Ideally have experience in management of independent infrastructure services; power and water generation, wastewater treatment
  • Ideally have experience in environmentally sustainable operations 

PREFERRED:



  • General Manager experience in a 4-5 star full-service property or resort will be beneficial. Hotel group experience in the past 5 years would be to your advantage.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and late nights.
  • Property industry work experience, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance.
  • Knowledge and experience of sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives in a business unit will be to your advantage.
  • Understands bedroom yield management and selling strategies
  • Personality: Outgoing, self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality service standards and business profit.
  • A natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance.
  • Can deal with complaints effectively.
  • Mature, credible, and comfortable in dealing with all people including staff, international guests and owners. Reliable, tolerant, and determined. Empathic communicator, able to see things from the other person’s point of view.
  • Well-presented and businesslike
  • Not older than 45
